Thanks man.
But is there a way to share that folder only with a specific computer on the network, rather than any computer that connects to it?
Like, if I give my wifi password to a friend, he's gonna be able to access my shared folder. How can I prevent that while maintaining acces between my two computers?
12:00 what? How did you switch between computers so fast and what program is this?
Awesome! Love it. Thank you
Thank you. Ofcourse I forgot to switch it from public to private….
Totally funny, he says use 128bit encryption, then proceeds to turn off all security on file sharing so anyone can connect to the share and read or write to it.
This is the holy grail of tutorial video's! Scrolled through the comment section first and found it to good to be true. Boy was I wrong. You sir are doing god's work. I never in a million years would have been able to figure this out by myself.
Is this obsolete now that homegroup is removed? I followed all these steps, and my computer is still asking for network credentials.
Very good article. But Can you please let me know how you are switching the computers being the same system?
Great tutorial. Work perfectly for me. Thank you so much.
If only I could get this to work for me!
THANK YOU!
Question though – how are you so quickly switching between machines like that?
Thank you sir! Very helpful and worked like a charm! 🙂
Very complete end-to-end explanation – thanks!! This fixed all of my problems!!
Thank you so much, I really appreciate your tutorial.
Thangu
thank you friend for life!
Hi great tutorial but I have one question, I followed your tute no probs and shared my downloads folder however even though I only shared this d/l folder it has granted access to all of the folders within the Users directory. How do I limit access it to my downloads folder only?
So Helpful. Thanks!!!
Tons of thanks to you, Windows10 Guru. Now I have the wife's new laptop setup to access the Documents folder on my desktop. Used to know how to do this stuff but I forgot it all! Your tutorial was detailed and perfect. Now, anyone know how the wife can access the folder on my desktop when she's traveling for work??
For some reason my second pc to which i wanna have access to files remotely doesn't find the pc hosting the files.. I've tripled checked all the settings..
Thank you very much, saved me a massive headache trying to figure this out on my own.
I Never Heard Windows Has A Network Locations
thankyou you were super helpful
So unfortunately for me I already had all those settings as shown in your video. It does work for Documents but does NOT work for sharing drives (I turned sharing on and granted Everyone read/write access in settings for the drive). I can see shared drives in explorer but cant access them.
thanks for this video my friend, i am poor with home computers
Among tens of videos I watched this is the only video that worked out! Thanks Guru!
once in a while, one comes across a how-to video that shows one exactly how to do a certain thing. this is one of those videos. good job, sir! 10 out of 10.
so good
Quite specifically the instructions I was looking for.
Thank you for your assistance.
Ask me for a password when I tried to access the shared folders
great video!
thanks
Thanks! My husband was feeling pretty frustrated trying to network our computers. This was very helpful!
Swaping to an outdated OS after spending 10 minutes to go over 5 minutes of content is why this is a bad tutorial.
On my wifi I was able to change from public to private. My ethernet is public and there is no way to change it to private. And now the issue of permission and an administrator has arisen.
In the sharing option…at the 5'37" mark. network access: it says "your folder can't be shared". And it fails, there are probably 10 ways to fix it so you assume people work out.
On my main i see the shared Z disc, but on the other account dont any help?😏
thanks
Gg man. Best tutorial
This is nicely done, with clearly enunciated instructions, so thanks for that – keep up the good work. Unfortunately, although I followed all steps carefully on many occasions, at best all I could get was my PC A being able to see my Documents folder on Laptop B, but not vice versa. Both machines Win 10 64bit with the latest updates installed, and full shut-down/restart after each network settings change on both machines.
I say "at best", since sometimes coming back to previous settings (after trying various combos of settings) would not result in the same "degree of visibility/accessibility" of machine/folders in one or other of the machines as compared with the previous attempt. Most frustrating! – it seems like Windows gets more and more fed up or in a twist, goes in a corner to sulk, and won't come out to play again.
OK, so I've given up on the attempt (3 hours wasted), and will look into OneDrive/Dropbox options. All I want is to share a certain few folders anyways between the two machines, with maybe 100MB total of files.
