Galaxy Tab Pro 10.1 Upgrade to LineageOS 14.1 Nougat Root Custom Rom (UpDated)

Rate this post

I will show you how I root and install custom ROM LineageOS 14.1 on the Samsung Galaxy Tab Pro 10.1 WiFi SM-T520 Build KOT49H.T520XXUANAE. This tablet was on the original stock firmware 4.4.2 KitKat and is not scheduled for any future upgrades from Samsung. It is notoriously slow and laggy on the stock software. This newer version is Android 7.1 Nougat, and it makes the Samsung Galaxy Tab Pro 10.1 run much faster and smoother.

Be sure to install Samsung drivers before connecting your tablet to the Windows computer.

  1. @iQ Android do you have any other download links for the correct version of LineageOS? I have attempted to download it several times now and transfer speeds are very low (15-100KB) and download fails multiple times

  2. Thanks so much. You're a life saver! I couldn't have done this without your video. My son had been asking to play a new game but my Tab pro still had Android 4.4 and it couldn't run a lot of google store apps. Thanks to you he's been able to play today 🙂

  3. Marcus, Thank you so much! Successful upgrade completed. My only doubt/trepidation were which files to download but I studied your screens and read the correct one. Is there a way to make a little cash contribution?

  4. Thank you so much for this video – it really helped me out :))))))

    1. CF-autoroot and ODIN worked perfectly
    2. TWRP recovery have to be 2.8.7.0 for me (else it crash doing the backup)
    3. I downloadet the newest lineage nightly from the exynos5420 site and it worked perfectly
    4. I tried the GAPPS ARM, 7.1 Pico as suggested in the video and its perfect – but im trying the stock pack later today for more apps

For some reason after flashing the LineageOS and the GAPPS pack TWRP told me "Your device dont seem to be rooted, root now?" dont say yes to this. Then LineageOS wont boot again. But dont worry you can download the latest SuperSU https://supersuroot.org/download/ and run that from TWRP and you are fine 🙂

So far my Tap Pro SM-T520 have been running super smooth. Its like a brand new tabelet and now i can install Disney+ and DRTV (Danish tv) For my son to enjoy. I cant get ny arms down :)))

  5. Worked perfectly – eventually! TWRP has a bit of an issue on this tablet because it thinks it is overheating and shuts down. Unfortunately it did this mid flash killing my tablet, or so I thought. Left it somewhere really cold and eventually got it to boot back into TWRP then you have to move quick. The actual ROM flash is very quick but even then the CPU temperature was reported to have risen from around 50° to nearly 80° . Put it to cool down before you flash the GAPPS package and it should be good to go. Well worth doing because KitKat 4.4 is ancient. Better battery life too.

  6. Hi Marcus
In the rooting process my tab crashed during install of LineageOS, how do I move on from here?
I can turn it of, but it restarts automatically to a black screen.
I can start it up in download mode, and run auto root + TWRP, but thats it.

  7. Yooo Thx Marcus! I got Lineage installed. Now I just have to figure out how to download the OS to get Google Play because it wouldn't let me install the pico or stock version of the OS.

Edit: Lol realized the tablet was a running on a 32bit chip, not a 64bit. Thx for the tutorial again.
